A little about me!!!

Hello, my name is McKenzie Atchison and I will be working with you in your classroom next semester. I am from Ulysses, a small town in southwestern Kansas. I am excited to begin this experience with you. Becoming a teacher has always been an inspiration of mine. I can remember being a little girl dreaming about having my own classroom. I worked a lot with kids in high school through various jobs that I held. Some of the jobs that I held were; I life guarded for two summers and taught private and group swimming lessons. I also worked at the programs building where I taught young children how to do various arts and crafts. All of these jobs made me realize how influential a teacher can be in a child’s life.
I will be going to Mexico after I finish my student teaching to teach students for three weeks. I am doing this to finish my endorsement in ESL. I chose an endorsement in ESL because I realize how important it is to give each student the same benefits. Growing up in Ulysses where there are quite a few students that are ESL made me become very interested in learning more about the rate and process that these students learn. When I get back from Mexico I hope to be moving to the Kansas City area where I will then start teaching in my own classroom for the 2009-2010 academic school year.
